The Best Natural Microwave Oven Cleaner

If you have read some of my previous posts it is quite obvious that we enjoy cooking and leftovers. Our microwave oven certainly has gotten a workout and has had some crazy food parties! We have a weekly cleaning routine and this has definitely been on the "to do/must do" list. I “occasionally” will wipe down the inside of the microwave – like when company come over, or if I happen to get to it when cleaning the kitchen – and by cleaning it I mean like wiping down the circular tray if something has spilled and that is pretty much that. I have been meaning to thoroughly clean it for months. We clean using a homemade mix – basically vinegar and water in a spray bottle for wiping household items and will throw in some baking soda in addition to the mixture for household items to soak sinks, tubs, toilets, etc. I also can’t tolerate the strong scented sprays and cleaners so anything natural (and using what you have in your cupboards) I am all for trying!

Today, I would love to share a fantastic homemade cleaning solution for the microwave from a great friend and fellow blogger - Sara from Great Homemade. Her blog is so inspiring and welcoming and so is she :) Sara has great DIY tips and posts on everything from Beauty to Pets and Cleaning. Be sure to check out her blog and support her by following along as well!

I have been wanting to use this homemade solution for a few weeks now and I did so yesterday. If your microwave has been enjoying many food parties like mine, then this is a must try! It combines some lemon slices, water and your microwave.

This is the before pic:

You pop in the bowl of water and lemon slices for a few minutes, let it sit for a bit and allow the steam to rise, wipe it down with a damp cloth and you will have a brand new microwave and bonus – your kitchen will smell fresh with the hint of citrus! The after pic:

Head on over to Sara’s blog and post for the full instructions here and happy (natural & homemade) cleaning! Let us know if you try it out!
